I have two cats: Karma Kitty is a sleek, black, muscular little boy who loves to cuddle, and Drexie Calabash, a dainty, delicate grey and black tiger striped little girl who loves being the center of attention. Karma will turn a year old this month; Drexie will be a year old in June.

Karma came to us via a friend who thought I needed a new cat after my old cat, E.B. White, died. We then picked up Drexie so that Karma wouldn't be an "only kitty".

E.B. had started going down hill after her best friend and adopted sister, Osha, our cocker spaniel, died the year before at the ripe old age of 16.

I have always had pets, or, when I didn't have them, wanted a few. Talk about unconditional love!

That is why animal abuse really makes me angry. Don't even get me started on the whole Michael Vick thing...It's not just him, but anyone who breeds animals strictly to fight and kill.

That is why I urge anyone who loves animals to get involved: join the ASPCA; call the police if you suspect animal abuse; volunteer. The same, of course, goes for child abuse, elder abuse, etc. There are things that can be construed as either/neither right or wrong. But there are some things that are inherently wrong. Abuse is one of those inherent wrongs.

There are times when wrongs will continue not necessarily because people are doing wrong but because good people do nothing to stop it.

That's all I'm saying.
